Genetics Provide Evidence for the Movement of Avian Influenza Viruses from Asia to North America via Migratory Birds

Wild migratory birds may be more important carriers of avian influenza viruses from continent to continent than previously thought, according to new scientific research that has important implications for highly pathogenic avian influenza virus surveillance in North America. As part of a multi-pronged research effort to understand the role of migratory birds in the transfer of avian influenza viruses between Asia and North America, scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska and the University of Tokyo, have found genetic evidence for the movement of Asian forms of avian influenza to Alaska by northern pintail ducks.

We go shopping for your Thanksgiving dinner to see how much it'll cost you

With gas prices continuing to fall, travel this Thanksgiving might not break the bank, but the food on the table will cost you more. The American Farm Bureau Federation priced many items for Thanksgiving this year for a family of 10. In fact, the cost of a turkey shot up a $1.46 from last year to $19.09. A dozen dinner rolls came in at $2.20, up 31 cents from last year.

Delek's neighbors talk about living next to refinery; more details on safety history

Yesterday's explosion at Delek Refining rattled dozens of nearby homes, something nearby residents say was just waiting to happen. KLTV 7's Layron Livingston has been investigating the company's history all day long, and talked to those who live near the refinery.

Friends and family remember Dale Sharman

Delek Refining says at least six employees were injured in yesterday's explosion. Four of them were transported to hospitals. As of Friday afternoon, James Hammett is still listed in critical condition at Parkland hospital. Tony Simpson has been released from ETMC in Tyler. Yesterday, Brett Wells was released from Trinity Mother Frances hospital in Tyler. The fourth patient passed away from his injuries early this morning at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Tyler Police looking for kidnapper

Tyler Police say they're on the hunt for a man who kidnapped a woman at gunpoint around 7:00 pm Thursday evening on East Charnwood Street.

Tyler Fire Department speaks about cause of Delek explosion

KLTV 7 has learned what caused the deadly explosion at Delek Refining, formerly known as La Gloria, Thursday afternoon. The Tyler Fire Department says that while they're still investigating the explosion, there was a gas leak in one of the pipes inside the sat-gas unit of Delek Refining. In fact, they say the fire is still burning there Friday night because all the fluid and liquid has to be consumed. Delek says that fire is isolated.
